5 Essentials to Survive the Summer

It’s no secret that I’m a Capricorn, winter baby who cannot deal with the southern heat. It’s just not for me. It doesn’t matter how hard I try; I’ll prefer indoors for summer months over anything else. With a younger child who enjoys playing outside and is a Leo baby to his core, I can’t avoid outside all the time. So if you’re trying to figure out how to survive summer heat, check out our list below.

SUNSCREEN

All skin shades and types need sunscreen; sunscreen is essential for everyone to protect the skin from UV rays which can cause sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. Regular use of sunscreen helps maintain overall skin health and prevents long-term damage. It’s a simple yet crucial step inane skincare routine, regardless of age or type of skin. Remember to apply it a little while before heading outside, and don’t forget to reapply. We were first attracted to Black Girl Sunscreen because it doesn’t leave white residue on our brown skin.

HYDRATION

Typically us parents are so busy trying to make sure the kids are taken care of that we forget to take care of ourselves. Fueling our body takes time and intentionality. Liquid I.V. makes it a bit easier and more convenient to make sure that I’m not dehydrated in the the heat of summer. I’m able to maintain my energy levels with all the rippin’ and runnin’.

WIDE-BRIM HAT

Pairing the wide-brimmed hat with sunscreen and sunglasses protects from harmful UV rays and decreases the risk of sunburn and skin damage. The wide brim helps keep everyone cooler by shading the face, neck, and shoulders.

DRY BAG

If I’m going to be outside, I need to be in water. This bag helps keep our wet swimwear from soaking everything else in my backpack. It’s also multipurpose year round, for other purposes like:

  • makeup bag,
  • snack bag
  • storage bag
  • cosmetic bag
  • cloth diaper, smell proof bag
  • beach bag
  • urine accident bag

ANTI-CHAFE STICK

To keep cool, we often wear shorts, dresses, and light fabric clothing where our thighs may rub together. No one wants irritated thighs AND in the heat. I’ve used this brand and product for a few summers now, and it has been transformational in how I feel wearing summer-friendly clothing.

Hopefully these five products help you and your family stay safe and more comfortable during all the summer time fun.
